STORYTELLING

EVERYONE LOVES A GOOD STORY

STORIES ARE FUN!

STORIES GRAB ATTENTION

Storytelling is one of the oldest forms of instruction

and one of the best

No once can resist a compelling story

SETTING THE MIND

What we see, hear or learn as children influence us for the rest of our lives.

The melodrama and fantastical world of stories and parables have a profound and awakening effect on a child’s mind. Stories are a powerful vehicle to enrapture, inspire and tweak the mind towards better understanding. It can download and install in a young mind great and powerful ideals.

This has led many educators to think about ways in which storytelling can be used to explore

important shared visions and themes.

STORYTELLING

experiences a considerable revival of interest in the world as an

EDUCATIONAL TOOL

Stories provide us with practical insight into approaches how to overcome our most persistent social and environmental difficulties.

Unesco finds storytelling laudble for various learning applications and they actively revive and promote the ancient way of storytelling to teach social, moral and environmental values.

Psychologists promoted the positive effects of reading and telling children stories for decades.

It's said that it has a particular effective way of illuminating and  teaching how to solve our problems.

STORIES EXPERTLY TEACH VALUES AND MORALS

One needs to learn the difference between right and wrong during childhood. Instead of giving lectures and speeches to a distracted and disinterested audience, presenting the same moral point in a story captivates a young child’s heart and imparts the underlying message at the same time.

Stories remain with the child and serve as reminders of the hidden moral or value.” Rave Uno - Published 2011

ROLE MODELS

People love to read stories to their children of characters who display high moral values and character: courage, honesty, compassion and more. But also weaknesses as they learn how to experience and respond to failure and adversity. Researchers have found it is a critical part of character building; the learning how to overcome failure and obstacles and to gain effective coping skills. It gives a sense of confidence, the creation of a sense of mastery over past adversity, and fostering beliefs in the ability to cope successfully in the future.

POWER OF IMAGINATION

The magical world of stories help children freewheel their imagination and they dream of going to unexplored Kingdoms, meet fantastical characters, doing heroic deeds and conquer impossible challenges and missions.

It is imagination that sets the human race apart as
creators of their own life path and
co creators of the universe.

The importance thereof should never be understated.

CAPTURES ATTENTION

The greatest challenge for a teacher or parent is when teaching moral values  - are to get, and hold a child’s attention and for the child to retain and apply afterwards what has been taught.

A good story in many ways does the job splendidly.

REASON IS  - a good story grabs a child’s attention and compels him or her to listen. The meaning of the word entertainment is to GET and HOLD attention and that is what a good story does. It doing so it reinforces important principles, which become a mindset and attitude in a child.

REINFORCEMENT

Children like to hear or read stories over and over again. This is a great learning opportunity because positive values get embedded in a child's mind.

REPEATING and FOCUSING on GOOD THOUGHTS
build strong neuron networks in the brain.
It creates good memory and a
healthy thought system

Repletion and repetition combined with a child’s imaginations and the inestimable power of an adult’s presence makes stories one of the best ways to influence their thinking.

Many parents understand the value of reading stories that exhibit high moral character.

ROLE MODELS

Through the reading of moral texts Narvaez, 2002, p. 156 says children can identify and emulate heroes that deems morally appropriate.

Inspiring stories displaying virtue contain the motivations and aspirations of moral heroes who face a variety of moral conflicts. Role models demonstrate how to overcome difficulties appropriately.

TRANSMIT CULTURE

A story has the power to enhance culture. Challenging issues like racism can be addressed in a positive way via stories portrayed in written and visual arts, audio, poetry, music and dance - all conduits that young people are very tuned into, and which exudes the excitement that they enjoy. Powerful art have the ability to change the moral culture of the youth from one perceived as dull and problematic to one that is very cool.

Stories have the power to lead us to a more just society
