PURPOSE

The story is an ALLEGORY. An allegory is a series of parables. Hidden in the story are treasures waiting to be discovered, discussed, pondered upon and enjoyed. Treasures  are values, golden nuggets of wisdom and life skills gift-wrapped in the beautiful world of escapism, play and entertainment.

TRACKEROO AND THE CREW
A  CRACKER JACK CHARACTER SERIES

GENRE

Trackeroo and the Crew is an ACTION ADVENTURE story that goes on a roller - coaster ride of twists and turns, fun, scares and wild entertainment. The story makes full use of the imaginary world and preferences of the modern child. There is plenty of action, danger, suspense and intrigue to keep young and old spellbound from beginning to end.

FEAR FACTOR

Some of the harsh realities of life portrayed in the story are cushioned against the freewheeling imagination and fantastical world of a child. Tales of horror are always appealing, but danger in these stories is to be more tongue in cheek. The image of the “baddies” is more pathetic than scary, and children should not experience real fear. Creating a delightful eerie shiver though whilst anticipating the outcome of events is however often desirable. It is heart -warming scenes, humor and the lighthearted rhyme, and rollicking style of writing that off set the scarier parts of the story.

CHARACTERS

The Trackeroo and the Crew characters emanate strength, fun and virtue. They are heroic, but real and not perfect - so children can identify with them. The stories have been written with humor and compassion to guide, (not preach) to inspire, stimulate and entertain endlessly. The attitudes of the endearing main characters of the story are skillfully crafted to become trusted life-long friends and powerful role models to the reader.

The importance of attitude towards life’s circumstances is evident throughout the series. It is the hopes, dreams and rewards that become beacons of light and that make characters persevere and hang on when the going gets tuff. The super hero’s in the story come alive in episode after episode of sheer adventure as they fight, persevere and sacrifice to rescue that which they stand for, and those whom they love. There are plenty of wacky evil characters and the “gross out factor” that boys delight in. Girls like themes of fantasy, love, courage, beauty and fashion of which there are ample in the story.

STYLE OF WRITING

fresh quirky funny clever original

Gill Knaggs winner of the Sanlam children’s literature prize has this to say about Trackeroo and the Crew’s style of writing.

“Open a page at random and you’ll soon be captivated by this writer’s unique, original style. Witty and, at times, downright naughty, the lighthearted rhyming, rollicking style belies the poignant, near-naked honest undertones that lift this book out of the morass of children’s books that just don’t hit the mark. This is the most seriously funny, or funnily serious, children’s book yet produced in south Africa by a South African for South Africans.”
